everything i like about fashion is this brand. dungaree style throw ons braces buttons and shirts. + simple quality leather goods. easy wearing versatile pieces designed and handcrafted with sustainability + quality at the heart.
Caves Collect believe in producing quality products which are built to last. Subscribing to a slow fashion mentality, believing that both clothing and leather products can be produced and consumed thoughtfully.
choosing to grow the label slowly – mindfully – the girls behind this dream brand johanna + sarah keep the bi-annual collections small + currently only sell from their online shop – producing each piece to order. i feel like i’m always finding these makers + designers i fall in love with and surely they end up being from places far from here leaving me to either moan and spend the night pinning each perfect item to a board named I WANT or to bite the possibly unjustifiable-shopping bullet and spend the extra monies on crazy international delivery because hey – if you love something right? but no joke – this melbourne based design duo offer FREE WORLD WIDE SHIPPING. a rare wonderful thing – no excuses necessary. f*yes.
the street style photography used to showcase each collection makes me love this label more. clothes being lived in. sun scorch + blur.
these days .. my life looks this picture series less well dressed. right now and most days i’m leaning sitting stretching staring mulling days away while i preparingly ponder the future. in between bursts of crazy coffee + my life is my oyster fuelled proactivity.
and watching sons of anarchy…
so i finally decided to come back here. it’s been months. july is flying and here’s how i’ve spent it so far.
trying / to adjust to working way less without dissolving into a duvet on the sofa watching sons of anarchy every night as mentioned. i’ve cut down on work and now have time. so i’m trying trying to make that time count fill my days + nail #theartofslowliving + #2016. in real life.
reading / the god of small things by arundhati roy – a gift from a dear mama friend.
eating / fridge scrap egg fried rice. all the getting old veg fried up real nice with rice. covered in sriracha.
drinking / lemon water. EVERY DAY. i’ve replaced morning tea with a warm water + lemon. the change i feel + see is unreal. if you’ve seen my face and you can’t see the difference shut up. i am so sure it’s changed my life a little.
wearing / those birkenstocks. they’ve not left my feet.
planning / our CANADA holiday – in september we fly to our best pal in whistler. i’m so excited to see her face + her beautiful mountain town. we’re all taking a trip down to portland for a few days while we are there too. it’s johns first ever long haul flight so the holiday planning so far consists of me tying to convince him that big planes are brilliant + distracting him with chat of canada dinner plans.
practising / drawing. all the young nudes started classes at a local bar + the first one was great. i always loved drawing and can’t wait to make time for it again. feels very indulgent.
listening / to my slow day playlist on spotify daily. + for kitchen parties it’s been hamish imlach on record.
learning / diy tricks. i just finished resealing our bathtub and i feel pretty mighty. the list of new flat diys is long. I’m going to tackle as many solo as i can since i have the time + when john gets some time off we can do the big guys together.
remembering / not to sweat the small stuff + lose it at john when he’s working 80 hour weeks and my life is now a breeze in comparison.
working / on plans for our HUGE LIFE GOAL which we are now almost in the process of making happen. project OUR LIFE began this month and i can’t wait to get things moving. here’s hoping we do. the time is now right?!
(it’s not a baby)
i’ll be back soon. that’s a promise. to myself.
ITS ALMOST TIME.
it may have been snowing the other day .. but the sun is coming out in albeit tiny waves and so easy spring summer dressing time is coming up and I AM READY. my wardrobe doesn’t vary much by season. much like my home style doesn’t vary much by room. but come less-chilly season – sandals are for er’day so i do like the warmer-even-slightly weather for this reason if not all the sun time beers.
(im also on the hunt for a new light coat much like yon there that the girl in the hat in socks is wearing. i cant tell you how much i like that coat. but anyway)
i loved this comfy sandal-shoe all through teenage life. and i won’t stop now. just try and divorce me for it john. who would pick the vegetables out of the washing machine if i wasn’t here huh? EXACTLY.
gill nails her birkenstocks like the girl top left with her shiny rose golds + im aiming for top-middle girl or – sorry john – girl in dream coat + socks. i don’t care what he says about the socks.
i’d also crap my pants over a pair of these but for SOME REASON they have been discontinued. theres a wailing emoji if ever i’ve used one.
here’s to sandals + spring summer easy mornings throwing on 4 things instead of 10.
we’re doing up our bathroom – nothing crazy, a new floor + new taps, that kind of thing – we’re going to get as close to a toilet dream as early 2016 monies will allow – a light filled plant heavy wooden accented space where i will bathe long and moisturise deeply. as earth mothers do. surrounded by greenery and burning insence sticks on imperfect stone dishes..
#thebigkitchenlife is ours. now on to achieving #thepeacefulbohobathroomlife.
i definitely have a coherent dream-house vibe across the (pinterest) board. my style doesn’t differ by room. although we sometimes chat about painting a dark bedroom – deep midnight or charcoal walls + french linen and blankets in grey + sooty sheepskins + towering plants – but moody nordic feels a bit adult for now. my love of light+bright stays strong.
so we’re going with blue and white patterned floor tiles. keeping the existing white shower tile & white-washed wood panelled walls + adding some hooks and shelf for more plants. new taps and a new shower with power to wash all of the coffee scrubs & other earth mothery natural products i plan to buy for this life of slow living we don’t yet lead.
+ (because this is sure to complete #thepeacefulbohobathroomlife
i we dream of) a woodworking friend is making us a bath shelf from beautiful off cuts of fallen tree* – the most exciting item planned since the open shelf project.
#thebigkitchenlife just keeps on giving.
i will share it all when we get round to the do. though when it comes to doing we go pretty slow. and i. don’t. mind.
*fallen tree workshop – two talented friends of mine from school days started hand carving home accessories from bits of fallen forest – and have grown now to designing and building custom pieces and full interiors. a hobby > a career. inspiring right? read their full story here & follow on instagram for behind the scenes stories & current projects. so happy to still have these two pals in my life. fist bump emoji x5.
dressing that simply and looking that cool is just not that easy.

K I N D O sells a collection of fashion forward original clothing for kiddos. and the store design is insanely amazing. inspired by a didactic bead maze with a colour palette chosen to reflect the littles sense of playfulness and personality using pastels and neons and the simple geometric shapes + function of the classic learning toy.
the coloured tubes that wind through the space are used as clothing rails + the giant beads to display different accessories. the design concept is carried through to the packaging / stationery / shopping bags + such like. and i can’t believe what i’m seeing.

[i can’t remember where i first saw this because once googled you will see it shared on SO MANY DESIGN BLOGS – and rightly so. crazy good.]
since i’m joining the knitting revolution im sure i am soon going to be able to make my own clothes … + maybe one day i’ll have the know how and yarn power to make something like the blue knit top.
if at some point this year i can knit even a scarf + play one full tune on the ukelele (WELL) – i am winning 2016.
crazy note | the blue knit top is from river island. i was as shocked as you might be.

GILLS BACK + sharing a make your own super organic natural face mask fandango!
It’s a funny old February. A bit of a down time for me work wise which means all the DIY, all the lists and action planning for all the hectic times to come. It does mean we get a little too holiday mode, catching up with pals (ie boozing) & eating far-too-early-bought creme eggs on the sofa resulting in a bit too many blemishes and some dry skin thanks to blasting the heating. Making for a classically hard to treat skin combo. It feels weird wearing loads of makeup this time of year when I’m supposed to be a clean, new me y’know so I’m lusting after that dewy no make up look which needs bright & clear skin.
I had a wee Google and ended up down a face treatments rabbit hole – organic, active ingredients, not tested on animals the hit list of things your product should be to achieve said glowy skin gets pretty intensive. Forgetting that really I have all the finest, organic ingredients in the kitchen and really I can make my own artisanal face mask. Man I can even put it in a fancy jar if I want to.
Having worked in Lush as a teenager and having a strange fancy for George of marvellous medicine namesake I’ve always loved tinkering and home brewing and chucking things in a pot. Something that has in fact fed over to my “use ALL the seasoning” style of cooking which makes all my food taste the same. (Mostly soy sauce & lekka spice) So I concocted a twist on the old favourite honey mask to make my face bonny again.
In a bowl:
/ 1tsp Honey – moisturising, soothing, naturally antibacterial & full of antioxidants
/ 1tsp Virgin Coconut oil – moisturising & also just coconut oil for everything really.
/ Egg yolk – nourishing and helps everything stick to your face
/ Sweet clem (or something orangey) – this is the glowy ingredient – it’s brightening and cleansing naturally so the perfect balance for the moisty oil.
Put on face, try not to get on your top and all over your sink – try & resist not licking it. (Not sure if I should be encouraging you to eat raw egg) I use warm water & a good face cloth to scrub off, a splash of cold water then plenty moisturiser or serum etc. I like to finish with kiehls midnight recovery oil.
Ps – you can also use the egg whites after to tighten pores and make your face feel all tight – it’s weird but good – G x
